Gathering of Friends 2012
As the year comes to a close we can't help but take some time to reflect on what the past months have brought. A favorite memory that comes to mind is the time spent at The Gathering of friends with my church family. This year there wasn't a snow storm to deter or delay anyone, the fellowship and smiles were abundant and I struggle to find an adjective to describe all of the wonderful food. Being a part of a big small church poses some difficulties. With three services, Sunday school, and ABF's it's hard to see ALL of our favorite people on Sunday. With the hustle and bustle a busy week and the holiday's bring it's also difficult to see or talk to everyone during the week! What a special blessing to have this one beautiful evening to spend in the same room with many of the people we love and enjoy spending time around. I really can't imagine anything much better than visiting with my friends with a hot drink and a plate of delicious food. Add in the soft lighting and Christmas trees adorned with twinkling lights and beautifully hand painted ornaments and you have the recipe for a very special evening.
The joy that filled the room that night while friends took the time to catch up with each other was really special. It was heartwarming to see people embrace and hear the excited friendly chatter that was taking place that evening. Not having any family in Monroe it was a good reminder what a gift the family of believer's at Monroe Bible Church is. I am so thankful for this evening as I'm sure that everyone who attends is. Thank you so much Jennifer, Anne, and Meghan for taking time to make all of the wonderful food and desserts that we look forward to all year. The love and time that goes into planning this event is appreciated by all of us. We all know that the fame of these treats has spread to then menfolk who clamor to be part of the "cleanup" but we won't name any names. Especially since their cleanup efforts mean that we get to eat a little more, talk a little longer and relax with our dear girlfriends.
I pray that Christmas was a blessed time with family and friends for all of you. As I reflect on yesterday's events the joy that fills my heart is overwhelming. No matter how many years I have been following Jesus, I am still humbled and grateful every Christmas morning at the gift of His son. As 2012 ends and 2013 begins I pray that each one of us keeps this precious gift in the forefront of our minds. As we make our plans and resolutions for the coming year let's all resolve to take a little extra time to spend with the friends and family who might need a little extra love and attention this year.
John 15:12-15 "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.
